Hello June! Time is flying by like nobody’s business this year. It’s already mid year?! For a start, I’m back here with my top 5 favourite products of May. It is mainly products for the face and probably 1 eyeshadow palette that I’ve been using quite recently.
1. JSM essential Star-Cealer Foundation
Jung Saem Mool, my ideal makeup school that I am dying to go and learn. She’s like a celebrity makeup artist in Seoul. Well, it’s Korea, Beauty Heaven. I really enjoyed myself when I was there for almost 2 weeks. As for this series, they have two types, the other one is illuminious and that is for people with dry and combination skin. It is sheer in coverage with luminous glow.
The one I am talking about is for combination and oily and acne prone skin like myself. It does offer flawless and buildable coverage to hide blemishes. In Singapore, where the weather is perpetually humid, there’s no need for that. Most people would have their natural glow by the end of the day.
This must have been the first and only bb cushion/foundation/concealer from Korea that I really enjoyed using. Even much more than my hourglass and Estee Lauder foundation that I’ve always been using.
Due to the humidity and my oily skin, it was a challenge to find any Korean base makeup suitable for me. Most of the time, the makeup slides off my face by the end of the day and causes my face to very shiny, and the coverage does not last throughout the day. More often than not, breakouts will happen but whether I wear foundation or not, I’ll still break out along my jaws especially.
I decided to trial with Jung Saem Mool foundation during my last trip to Bangkok in May which was in the midst of some heat wave. During that period, I had another raging hormonal acnes breakout around my jaw. I needed to conceal my redness and ugliness along the jaw. Hence, I only use a small pump of the foundation and the concealer bit to conceal the acne spots.
It was flawless. I will find some pictures to show that I am actually have breakout but thanks to the JSM star-cealer, my skin looks very healthy instead. The best thing is, it last through out the entire day without a single touch up or blotting needed. The concealer was also designed by JSM to stay fade-proof not in a cake manner. I also felt like it aided my acne to dry up as well.
The shade I am using is Pink Light which is natural beige with pinky undertone,( shade 19-21) I always prefer a tint of pink in my foundation to yellow based ones. This foundation has whitening, wrinkle care and anti UV with SPF 30 In it. A little of this magic goes a long way. I should be coming up with a makeup tutorial with this foundation as well.
2. Colourpop eyeshadow palette : It’s my pleasure
When CP first integrated their eyeshadow palette with mirror, I was so so so tempted to get it which is the Mar+sol palette. Then I continued to procrastinate and hesitate until they came out with ohh Lala palette which was a series of pink eyeshadow palette. They are very Barbie colours but I continued to procrastinate until I sighted It”s my pleasure. Then I did not procrastinate any further and bought it because they were also having a 40% sales then.
Might as well right since the deal is already there. I’ve been loving every colour I used inside. I will show you a selfie and boomerang with it. I’ve yet to have time to film a makeup look based on this palette and CP came out with the red and blue series. I am so tempted to get those colours too but I am likely to wait for the sales since they are not limited editions.
I managed to sneak a selfie while I was on my way to meet my friends to party. Btw that night at cherry discotheque was a nightmare. Never have I encounter so many young kids at a club but they dress very well too. Shocked and impressed at the same time.
The picture will be in one of the slideshows above. I went horizontally down the palette. This was swatched without primer and look at how pigmented it is. It applies smoothly, and only one shade called sleeper which is the last shade that is slightly chalky. I shall do a tutorial on this soon!
3. UV Biore Sunblock makeup base (Covering)
This product was recommended to me by another mua. This is my second bottle I have completed. This acts like both a sunblock and a base/primer for makeup. It comes in 3 different types: Oil Control, Brighten up and covering base.
If I am not wrong, the one for oil control is colourless To slightly tinted, while the brighten up is pink in colour. Lastly, for the covering base, it’s like a tinted skin colour gel with spa 50++. They are light on the skin and it has some light coverage. It can be worn alone or with foundation which I always do as base and touch up with concealer on those acne areas. This is also affordable and retailed at $17.90 in Guardian!
4. NeoGen Dermalogy Real Fresh Foam
Picture taken off eBay, not taken by me. I usually use this in the morning to cleanse my face because it’s gentle and does not strip you off your natural oil. It can be used as a double cleanser to remove makeup because of the foam it creates. No tightness after rinsing. Only con about this is, I can’t bring it when I want to travel light.
This is my current state of complexion. I just washed my face this morning with the cleanser, with no skincare or toner applied since I’m not going anywhere today. This foam is water based and it’s suitable for sensitive, combination and acne prone skin. The green tea extract brightens, clams and hydrates the skin. They have other flavours in cereal, cranberry and blueberry to address various concerns. I highly recommend it if you are looking for a gentle but works as a double cleanser as well.
5. Too cool for school egg mellow cream
This product was recommended to me by a dear friend. This brand is everywhere in Korea. They used to have a store in Singapore but it closed long ago maybe because it was not popular enough. By far they are only known for their art class by Rodin Contour palette. If this wasn’t given to me, I wouldn’t have known that this is such a good moisturizer even for an oily and acne prone skin like myself.
This moisturizer is 5 in one collagen infused firming moisturizer. I like how korean products infuse brightening and anti wrinkle properties into a moisturizer. I usually apply this at night to retain the moisture on my face as I sleep in air condition room. This is not too rich for oily skin. If it is, I would have woken up in the morning with oily shiny face and probably with breakouts. It has also helped me in battling my post acne scars.
